The Rush Hour Commute
It is 8:15 AM on Tuesday. Murat arrives at the busy station with an umbrella because of the heavy rain.
He sees Giuseppe near the barrier. Murat asks if he needs an Oyster card or if a bank card works.
Giuseppe explains that a contactless payment card is easier. He says the gate price is 2.80 pounds for this zone.
The loudspeaker announces that the Victoria Line has a delay due to urgent roadworks nearby. People look very tired.
Murat touches his phone on the yellow reader at Gate 4. He has finally passed the barrier at 8:22 AM.
The platform is crowded with many people. Murat worries he will miss his 9:00 AM doctor appointment.
He thinks about the expensive breakfast he had at the restaurant earlier. It cost 12.50 pounds.
The train arrives at 8:30 AM. It is packed, so they push inside to find a small space.
Giuseppe mentions that he has already paid his daily cap. Murat realizes his commute is quite efficient today.
They exit the station at 8:50 AM. Murat is happy because he will arrive on time for his meeting.
