CHAPTER 15

A Busy Day in London

At 08:30 on Monday, Monika meets Ji-ho at the train station. She explains that the secondary school starts at 09:00 for the Year 9 pupils.

The weather is cloudy and cold today. They hear a loud announcement that the train to the city center is delayed until 08:55.

Monika explains that the British education system divides students into Key Stages. She has checked the syllabus for her son on the website.

They decide to go to the supermarket while they wait. The roadworks on the street make the walk to the shop take fifteen minutes.

Monika compares the loyalty cards for the grocery store. She says the blue card saves 2 pounds and the red card offers a 5 percent discount.

Ji-ho thinks the red card is better because he has an appointment at the doctor at 11:30. He wants to save money on his lunch.

The price of the bread is 1.50 pounds and the milk costs 1.20 pounds. They pay quickly because the store is very busy today.

Monika tells Ji-ho that the school term finishes on 20 July. She hopes to travel with her family after the final exams end.

They arrive at platform 4 just as the train pulls into the station. Monika checks her watch and sees it is already 09:10.

They sit down and discuss the next school term. Ji-ho confirms he will meet her at the restaurant for dinner at 19:00.
