CHAPTER 16

A Day in the British School

Dragan has arrived at the train station at 08:15 for his meeting. He notices the heavy roadworks near the platform.

The announcer says the 08:30 train is delayed due to the bad weather. Dragan feels a bit anxious about his schedule.

Sabine greets him and explains the British school system. She mentions that pupils start primary school at the age of five.

They walk to the school and talk about the national curriculum. Sabine says that students wear a uniform every day.

They have lunch at a cafe where the bill is 12.50 pounds. Dragan apologizes for being late, which is a polite British habit.

Sabine explains that secondary school ends at sixteen for the GCSE exams. She says it is important to be punctual for every lesson.

A teacher tells them that a doctor appointment is at 15:45. They leave the building quickly to catch the bus.

Dragan observes the polite social etiquette during the journey. Everyone queues patiently at Gate 4 for the local transport.

The weather has improved by 16:30. Dragan feels that he has understood the British school structure better today.

They say goodbye near the station entrance. Dragan has learned that good manners are essential for success in the UK.
