CHAPTER 43

A Day in London

On October 12th, Petra arrives at the station at 09:15 because of roadworks. She meets Maria near the platform 4 gate.

The weather is rainy, so they check the council website for the recycling rules. They learn that the blue bin is for paper.

Maria explains that plastic bottles must go into the green bin. Petra is surprised that the local council has such strict regulations.

They walk to a restaurant for their 13:30 appointment. Petra reads the menu and asks if the prices include the service charge.

The waiter says the total is 45 pounds. Maria tells Petra that a 10 percent tip is common for good service in the United Kingdom.

Petra pays the bill and adds a small tip. She feels happy because she has finished her lunch on time.

They walk past the doctor office on the corner. Maria reminds Petra about their next appointment on November 5th.

A loud station announcement says that the train is delayed by twenty minutes. They decide to wait inside the warm cafe.

Petra sorts her trash into the correct bin as she leaves. She has learned a lot about the environment and dining habits today.

They say goodbye at 15:45. Petra is proud that she has managed her day using the new information.
