CHAPTER 76

A Day of Service and Dining

Priya and Ayse arrive at the train station at 08:30 to help with the community event. There are roadworks outside, so they walk quickly.

The station announcer says the train to the town centre leaves from platform 4. They hope the weather stays dry for the outdoor stalls.

They spend the morning setting up tables for the local charity. Many volunteers have worked hard since early today, November 12th.

At 13:00, they finish their shift and decide to visit a nearby restaurant. Priya looks at the menu and checks the prices for lunch.

The menu shows a classic fish and chips for 12 pounds. Priya says she has heard that a 10 percent tip is common in this country.

Ayse explains that service charges are sometimes included in the bill. They decide to check the receipt carefully before paying.

The waiter brings the final bill which costs 28 pounds total. They notice the restaurant does not add a mandatory service charge.

Priya decides to leave a 3 pound tip on the table for the staff. She says she appreciates the friendly service they received today.

They leave the restaurant at 14:45 to return home. It starts to rain, so they run toward the bus stop to avoid the storm.

They feel happy because they helped their community. They plan to volunteer again at the next event on December 5th.
