CHAPTER 84

A New Chapter in London

Jochen arrived at the station on 12th March to visit his potential flat. He needed to reach London for the viewing at 14:30.

The ticket agent explained that Jochen could reduce the expense by using a split-ticketing strategy. He saved 45 pounds on the journey.

Jochen boarded the train on platform 4 at 09:15. He felt anxious about the upcoming negotiation regarding the property.

During the commute, Jochen reviewed the draft of the tenancy agreement. He wanted to verify the stipulated monthly rent of 1200 pounds.

He noticed a clause about the maintenance responsibilities of the tenant. This provision seemed rather ambiguous to him.

Elif met him at the station to discuss the offer. She suggested that they should examine the termination policy before signing the contract.

They walked to the apartment located at 88 Oak Street. The exterior of the building appeared quite impressive.

Jochen asked Elif if the security deposit was refundable after the expiration of the lease. She confirmed that it would be returned in full.

They entered the living room to inspect the furniture. Jochen wondered if the landlord would permit any minor modifications.

Elif mentioned that the utility bills were not included in the total price. This disclosure surprised Jochen significantly.

Jochen expressed his concern about the duration of the notice period. He preferred a shorter term for his own convenience.

They decided to draft a formal letter to request an amendment to the document. This action demonstrated his professional approach.

Later, Jochen returned to the station for his 18:00 departure. He felt optimistic despite the administrative challenges.

The journey home cost 35 pounds because he booked the separate segments correctly. He appreciated the efficiency of the rail system.

Jochen analyzed the media coverage regarding the local housing market. He realized that finding a residence required great persistence.

He called Elif to ensure that the landlord had received their written proposal. She promised to follow up with the agency tomorrow.

The official application process seemed daunting, yet Jochen remained determined. He prepared his references to show his reliability.

By the evening, Jochen felt prepared for his new life in the city. He looked forward to receiving the signed contract soon.
