Two-part connectors
These connectors consist of two parts and link two pieces of information together: either ... or, neither ... nor, both ... and. Using these in the B1 writing and speaking exam makes your text noticeably better. Most connectors do not change the word order; the only special structure to watch out for is je ... desto.

1. entweder ... oder
either ... or
Entweder kommst du mit oder du bleibst hier.
Either you come with me or you stay here.
2. weder ... noch
neither ... nor (already negative, no nicht)
Ich trinke weder Kaffee noch Tee.
I drink neither coffee nor tea.
3. sowohl ... als auch
both ... and
Er spricht sowohl Deutsch als auch Türkisch.
He speaks both German and Turkish.
4. nicht nur ... sondern auch
not only ..., but also ...
Sie ist nicht nur klug, sondern auch nett.
She is not only smart, but also nice.
5. zwar ... aber
admittedly ... but / true ..., but ...
Die Wohnung ist zwar klein, aber günstig.
The apartment is admittedly small, but affordable.
6. je ... desto
the ... the ... (with comparative)
Je mehr ich übe, desto besser spreche ich.
The more I practice, the better I speak.
💡 Do not add nicht or kein to a weder ... noch sentence; the negative meaning is already built in.
