The London Commute

It is 08:00 on Monday. Stefan checks the weather and sees heavy rain before his doctor appointment.

Stefan walks to the underground station but finds roadworks blocking the entrance. He feels anxious about his schedule.

Stefan enters the underground gate at 08:15. The station announcement warns that the Northern Line has long delays.

The platform is crowded with commuters. Stefan pushes through the crowd to reach the train carriage.

Stefan sits down and opens his phone to book a rail journey. He decides to use split tickets to save money for a restaurant dinner.

He pays 25 pounds for the first ticket and 15 pounds for the second. The total cost is much cheaper than a standard fare.

Stefan arrives at the main station at 09:30. He checks the departure board to find his platform.

The screen shows his train leaves from platform 4 at 09:45. He runs toward the gate to catch the departure.

Arjun meets him at the gate. Arjun says that they have exactly five minutes to board the train.

They jump onto the train just before the doors close. Stefan feels relieved that he has successfully planned his trip.
