The Rush Hour Journey

It is 8:15 AM on Monday. Iryna stands at the entrance of Victoria Station because the heavy rain has caused long delays.

She tells Kerem that she forgot her plastic Oyster card at home. Kerem explains that she can use her contactless bank card instead.

The station announcer says that the Northern Line has severe delays due to unexpected track maintenance.

Iryna taps her credit card at gate number 4. The reader shows a green light and the gate opens quickly for her.

Kerem mentions that his daily cap with his Oyster card cost 8.50 pounds yesterday. He thinks contactless is much more convenient.

They walk down to platform 3. The platform is very crowded because many people are going to their office jobs.

Iryna checks her phone and says she has a doctor appointment at 9:30 AM. She hopes the train arrives before 8:45 AM.

The train arrives with a loud noise. They squeeze into the carriage and stand near the door.

After three stops, they exit the station. Iryna is relieved because she will arrive at the clinic on time.

They say goodbye near a cafe. Iryna walks fast to reach her appointment before the morning roadworks block the street.
